Saxophonist. Vocalist. Flautist.

One listen to Varetta Heidelberg's music reveals her knack for bringing intimacy to her audience, whether in a large or small setting. Her songs speak candidly to you as she captures the essence of "music that soothes the soul".
Her passion, dedication, and unique sound have allowed her to be a part of many amazing musical experiences while performing at home in the States as well as on numerous international stages.

Music has been described as the language that transcends all barriers. It is not at all surprising that Varetta Heidelberg has emerged with a vital and compelling message through melodies of compassion that inspire, comfort and bring hope, as well as enjoyment. Not at all concerned with the boundaries of style, she speaks many different musical languages from classical to jazz.

Varetta received her bachelor's degree from Jackson State University and a certificate of completion from the celebrated Dick Grove School of Music. She is an accomplished songstress and musician, but is not limited to that realm. She is the founder/director of three non-profit organizations: 1) Instruments of Praise, providing more than just must in endeavoring to train young artists for ministry through the arts, 2) The Widow's Treasure, providing service and care to widows and widowers in gentle rediscovery, renewal, and restoration, and 3) Crosswinds ASAIL, providing music and mentorship for the serious young musician.

She has received numerous honors that highlight her musical and entreprenueral gifts spanning from her contributions as Miss Black America and continuing in her service to the community through the non-profit organizations.

Her dedication to her call leads into diverse settings such as prisons, jails and juvenile facilities, as well as churches and concert halls. Her gifts are an expression of God's gracious love and are portrayed in a ministry of excellence.

Varetta is recognized for her soothing voice, articulate sax riffs and Latin jazz flute renditions. Her arrangements bring new life and flavor to traditional songs, and her originals give evidence of her abilities as a composer as well as a performer. Her recordings, including Light In The Midst Of Darkness, are a personal expression of what God has done and is doing in Varetta's life.

Varetta lives in Southern California with her husband and their two children.
